Is Your Garage Door Crooked?
Can You See the Inside of Your Garage Door?
You may have called for garage door service repairs and now feel like you’ve been put on the hot seat of a game show.
“What Are All These Crazy Questions They’re Asking Me?”
Yes, that’s a line out of an old Rock & Roll song…but sometimes it may feel like this. Why is it important?
There’s truly only one answer: It gives us a better idea of what kind of problem that your garage door has and what we may need to repair it…and who is best to send out to your home or business.
By asking these questions (and usually a few more), we will be in better shape to repair or at least get your door up or down in as short amount of time as possible. In some instances, we may actually need to send two people out if the door is mostly (or even totally) off the tracks. However, much of the time it’s a job that one person can handle.
Other Questions You May Be Asked:
- Is Your Garage Door for 2 cars or just one?
- Do you know the brand (manufacturer) of your garage door?
- Do any of the wheels look like they are out of the track?
- Are the cables still tight on both sides of the garage door or are they hanging loose?
- Do you have steel wheel rollers or are they the plastic-looking rollers?
- Do both the springs above the garage door look like they are the same (i.e. is one tightly coiled and the other might look loose).
These series of questions may not be exact, since some of your answers may tell us what we need to know or we may need to ask other, more specific questions.
Garage Door Service and Repairs
Most of the time we will be able to send someone out to your home or business fairly quickly and after some additional troubleshooting, we should be able to identify or verify the issue causing the problem. Often we will have the needed parts for repair or replacement on the truck and be able to provide the garage door service repairs at that time.
Although it’s unlikely, there are times that we must go get another part or order something for a special situation. It just doesn’t happen often.
Please understand that if our technician asks you to stand further back, they are doing that for your safety. Garage doors are big and they are heavy. If there is a problem with the tracks, or the wheels, or the cables, or the springs there is always a chance that when something shifts, any one of those parts might come out and the direction they might go is unknown because of the weight and the tension those doors create.
I Need to Go Somewhere, Can I Safely Open it Now?
This is a question that we often hear. That’s usually when someone found out there was a problem with their door in the first place…when they needed to go somewhere.
But Right Now? …not a good idea!
If you have even one roller on the floor and your garage door is in a bind, then you could possibly hurt yourself attempting to lift it.
These doors are very, very heavy and if it’s off the tracks or a spring is broken, then you won’t be able to lift it up safely. It should be looked at and repaired by a professional so no one gets injured. Please be careful!
